BK9 Sheath, Moose Style

Wow, sounds like good news for me - just sent Moose my payment for a BK2 sheath this week. Wanted mine plain - no firesteel loop. Looking forward to it!

Yeah, yours just got done curing, should have it ready to go by Monday at the latest.

Moose hide? No, but I will make you one from moose hair. From my back.

WOW Moose, that's a beautiful sheath. I'm planning on trying to make my own leather sheath where would be a good place to order a small amount of leather?

Thanks.

wow, a family of 3 could sleep in that thing?

do you use an awl, or perhaps a mini-drill press to get the holes going? sewing directly through that stuff must be a pain.

Nice !

My fingers hurt just reading about it though.

Start to finish, how many hours ? Gotta' be a bunch.

I do pre punch my holes, but no machines. Even prepunched, I still have to put the needles and thread through:D. It not as bad as it seems though, the BK9 just takes alo of stitches.

Start to finish is hard to judge, because they aren't made in one sitting. I do know that for what I charge and how long it takes, I don't make much more than minimum wage while making them. Its not really about the money, its how much I like seeing them done. Plus, Beckers look good in leather.

If you want to start to try to make one, I say find a local leather shop, they are around, if not, type in to goggle and see what you can find for supplies.

Thanks Slugman, I appreciate it.

I've done a little leatherwork, but not much. Enough to know that 13oz. leather is gonna be one HECKUVA pain to stick unless you use a powerdrill to make the holes first! AWESOME work, Moose. I need to try my hand at this.

As for finding leather supplies, Tandy Leather is a good source, albeit not exactly the cheapest, I think. I know right now, though, they are running a sale on 7-8 oz. full shoulders for $4.49/sq. ft. Only problem is, minimum order is 27sq. ft. Not in my budget this month, unfortunately, because that is the cheapest per sq. ft. that I've seen. If you can find one nearby, though, I think you can get smaller pieces.

Use the moose hair to make custom cordage for lanyards.

Moose you do really nice work. You are too humble sometimes.

Nice sheath. Can you post a shot of the other side? Wanna see what you did with the belt loop.

That sheath is in the hands of its owner now, but I have 3 BK2 sheaths that I will have done tomorrow at the latest. I'll make a new post and show the back, not much really, but it has a 3" loop ot accomodate large belts and pack belts.

I think I will be hitting you up soon on the BK2 sheath moose, got black, I might have asked already...
