BK9, shortening and drop point mod?

hey guys,

2 days ago I bought a ka-bar bk9. Fantastic knife. Had ka-bar knives before (not becker), but this is a truly exceptional knife. However.... I am not a fan of the bowie design, and even though this is one very good bowie, still....
So I was thinking of shortening it, and giving it a drop point "loveless" style blade. Sort of a bigger bk2. I was thinking of making the blade about 6-7 inches in length. And strip the coating as well.
The bk9 was not my first option, but in the store, all other beckers were out so I went for the bk9....
Any ideas from you guys on how I could do this without destroying the knife or the temper?Or any ideas why I should not do it? I wouldn't mind that too...I m beginning to like this knife as it is.
thnx

Congrats on snagging a great knife. Keep it as is, use it like you stole it, order a BK2 and enjoy a great outdoor combo.

Dude I would say trade that 9 for a knife more in line with what you want. Id think if yougrind it enough to shorten itthat much it'll screw. Up the steel.

Strip it, Grind off the thumb ramp, and get a leather sheath made for it and you'll be glad you didn't commit the sin of destroying a 9. (Grinding off the thumb ramp don't count!). It's the best of the bunch in my opinion.

You do not have to shorten the BK9. IMO you would ruin a great chopper's balance, however you can turn it into a drop point. I recently reshaped a 7 and a 9 and recoated in Brownell's Alumahyde 2 and then added micarta scales.

I say do it. Go for broke man. Fortune, as they say, favors the bold. Just make sure to dunk that thing in water often so as to not ruin the heat treat. Other than that, I see no reason why you couldn't make it what you want. Oh and order a BK2 anyways. It is a great knife.

Do It!

Or he could do something awesome that we have never seen before and turn his BK9 into a really long BK2. What is with you people? Let him do something crazy so we all can enjoy it! I want to see the BEASTK2 get made dangit!
