BK9 vs. Imacasa Machete vs. Cold Steel Kukri (Photo Heavy)

I have a Blind Horse Machete with a Imacasa blade that is scary sharp. I'm positive it could do better than 100 strikes.

Planning a survival shake-down of my new kit in a few weeks. Will take my big blades out and do a comparison.

That sounds like a sweet machete, man. I'm looking forward to seeing it! Like I said, I'm pretty sure my machete would have done better with a convex edge, but it is what it is right now. I just wanted to see what would happen. Those oak branches have been sitting out in the weather since the summer, making them incredibly hard. That doesn't help in terms of count, but it worked fine for a comparison.

Looking forward to trying out Haze's BK9. Got that coming in tomorrow, evidently. VERY excited. I've been curious to see how it stacks up against one of my HI khuks. I'm gonna throw the Ka-bar kukri into the mix as well. Very cool comparison, thanks for sharing!

Yeah... The long handle and semi-stiff blade makes it feel more "weapon" than "tool". My go-to zombie chopper.

Thanks for the test. If I ever get around to getting a BK9, I'm going to test it against a couple of my blades that I know will outchop it, but not sure by how much. Definitely be a good test.

Gotta say C-Tanner is dead on right about the BHK Outdoors Machete. I have one as well and it is amazing. I am actually working with BHK to get a thicker version made custom for me. I just ordered a BK-9 and look forward to seeing just how good it is. Thanks for the comparison!

Also, is that grip tape on the handles of both of the blades? How is that working out? I like the idea a lot for some of my knives.

As far as the CS, I love the handle on the thing, but I'm not overly impressed with the performance of the blade, even with a convex edge. From a leverage standpoint, the extra 4" on the blade should give it an edge for chopping, but I think it's too thin.

I have a Camillus made BK9 and Khukri machete. Both have convex edges and seem to chop about the same, the machete just has longer reach. This spring when I can actually put my machetes to use, I'll probably thin the convex edge a little to see if that improves it's chopping ability. I have some Real Khukri's that on soft or hard wood will out chop most machetes any day of the week. Of course those Khukris don't see as much time on my pack because they weight more. ;)

I'd love to see a Heavy Bowie thrown in to the mix. I think my BK9 can slightly out chop my Heavy Bowie, but I carry the Heavy Bowie more. Something about the clip point blade does it for me. Makes a great chefs knife, then again, both do. ;)

Its Wilson tennis racket wrap. The plain rubber/leather feel. You get the 3 packs at Wal Mart for under $3. Hands down beats all other wraps Ive ever tried. When you get to the end of you handle, just cut it down to a taper and use a dab from a Krazy Glue brush applicator. Works and looks awesome. If you do a lot of heavy chopping, you can get a double wrap out of one roll, though I usually just do one.

I'm definitely going to give that a go. It seems like a great solution for certain blades.
