Bk9 vs Junglas 2 what to get

Never heard of the skrama, I’m glad to hear there are reasonably priced big blades in the UK—most of the news I hear is out of London—plenty of threads discussing the mindset there.

I found it in a thread on here; https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/skrama.1388202/ where a member had done a thorough review with lots of praise. It’s a Finnish knife, and only available from one website (in Finland obviously). I had mine shipped to me in a day and a half and have nothing but good things to say about it. Steel is tough (80CrV2), takes a wicked edge and holds it well in my experience. Nothing fancy but it works really well.

UK as a whole is very anti-knife, generally speaking. Hard to find decent knives here and even harder to find decent prices

Closer in price to the bk9, cheaper still if purchasing without handle, shipping is the only thing I’m unsure of. And 80crv at 59rc(at the edge) something close to laminated or differential HT is mentioned. I think I’m sold on this one, an interesting alternative to the bk9 (I have 4 of them already). 2mm sheath can be improved, so I’ll get the 50 EUR version.

I would 100% recommend giving it a try. I’m not exactly sure how but definitely read that they leave core harder and outer somewhat softer. It’s a beast for the price.

I guess shipping would take longer to US but in my experience they are despatched same/next day and mine was in my hand after around 40hrs.

I just got the cheap plastic sheath and keep it in my toolbox but I would say the leather sheath would be a better option. Apparently it’s pretty good too, from what I’ve read. The handle design is great. Love the fact you can get right back on the handle and it almost feels like 2 different knives depending on which grip you use. The Skrama definitely out chops my Junglas 2 but, when you choke up on it, doesn’t feel any less nimble than the Junglas. They also put a steeper angle on the first couple of inches of the edge for finer work. Lots of small details that make sense and work. You can tell that it’s a knife which has been designed and made carefully and properly.

The Skrama ships to the U.S. For under $10 and I received mine in 7 days. No field time yet, but the balance is superb. I grabbed one with plastic sheath only and found a military surplus store in the U.S. which sells new British SA80 bayonet frogs for about $6 shippe. Those fit the Skrama plastic perfectly.

Fixed it for ya

Strictly between the bk9 and the junglas 2 I’d get the bk9. Even though with what I consider essential upgrades—handles and sheath—the price can climb quite a bit. I just love the handles, the thumb ramp, the saber grind, everything about it really.

Between the BK9 and Junglas the tougher is certainly going to be the Junglas but the better edge holding will go to the BK9. I know the big knife toughness argument but I and not a fan of constantly sharpening a knife especially a large knife in the field. If you don't abuse the BK9 it will serve you well for a lifetime, if I want unbreakable I will bring a Busse.
