BK9 with coyotes - Update 1/15/15 Four coyotes in five days, pics on page 2.

Nice score..... I love to see "good" coyotes !!!!!...... It always amazes me that they are so mindlessly destructive..... We have waaaay too many here too but, one is too many......

Thanks for the pics.......

Ethan

Slaughter those nasty vermin! I cant stand coyotes. Yipping nasty little bast@rds. Little monsters dragged off one of dogs..

yeah, i love the dog. not so much the coyotes. friends have come close to losing their dog, other friend's parents have lost sheep to them.

Got one more. This was the first one I've caught when I set the snare up by myself. Had to shoot it since it was caught around the belly.

Do you ever get out and try to call them in with a coyote call and shoot them?

Dad tried one night with the federal trapper. They had night vision but never saw a thing. It doesn't work as well here as it does out west since we don't have as much open area to see them in.

A terrible cellphone pic of some of my coyote calls.
If you look close enough at the deer skull you can almost see what is left of the arrow head sticking out of the back of the skull.
I took the shot strait down from a tree stand and the arrow hit at just the back of the head and traveled down through the center of the spine.

@Ging and Ethan, If you've got a fenceline they come through, a snare, and some patience, you can get started thinning them out a bit. If you want to start snaring them I'll ask dad who he got to make his snares for him.

@MT, Cool. Which call do you have the most luck with? We've considered setting up a rabbit in distress decoy with sound to see if we can get any that way. Nice shot on the deer.

Well we got one more. Big male. I just want to point out that four in the time of four days isn't very common.

Have you ever tried boiling the skull down on any of these? I've done a few and they turn out really good.

Here's a video on the basics. I've done a few in the house but you can imagine what the women say about that!

I ended up finding a big cast iron witches pot that I would hang over a fire on a chain. I've done Deer, racoon, beaver and a couple coyotes. They really turn out nice.

That's pretty cool. Might have to try it.

I usually forage the rock pile we throw them on to for skulls and grab the teeth out of them. :D

I like the fur on that one you're holding! Nice reddish color. I knew an older guy once who told me that he'd give me a bounty for every coyote I killed. Them and boars. I never actually got paid, but I would've felt bad taking money from the old dude, anyway.

That's my dad, I'm the kid with the gun near the top of this page and on the first post with the two coyotes. :D We've caught quite a few with a really red color.

The county used to have a bounty on coyotes but they stopped doing it a good while back. Don't have boars here yet but when they come here we'll make some bacon. :D
