BK9 Zytel scales too slippery! Cheap Replacement? (DIY? G-10?, etc)

Hey folks,
I need some suggestions for replacing the slippery Zytel handles on my BK9 - (Combat Bowie - 9" blade) that I bought a few years ago.

Trouble is, the handles are so slippery that it has flown out of my hand on more than one occasion.
Therefore, I dont use the BK9 anymore b/c I'm afraid of the knife slipping out of my hands and accidentally chopping somebody's head off (zoiks!)

I see there are Micarta scales replacements available, but I personally find the micarta still not providing enough grip for me. I prefer G-10 scales over micarta, but am open to other materials or scales but want to keep the price down.

If I can't find a viable alternative, I will just ditch the Bk-9 and buy an Esee or other long-blade knife that has good grip and/or comes with G-10. In retrospect, I bought the BK9 to save a few bucks over the similar knives (Esee, RAT, etc) , but now find that I may be spending just as much on a mix and match BK than an Esee.

Ideas? Vendors? DIY? Anyone on the forums that may provide a service that could help?
This is my first thread, thanks folks!!

Ranger bands and skate/tennis racket tape seem popular.
Personally roughing the grips on my becker with 220 sandpaper worked for me.

Have you tried roughing up the micarta with some coarse sandpaper? Sorry I read your post wrong I thought you had already tried the micarta handle scales.

Will look up Ranger bands- I'm a newbie. I've seen the tennis tape, thought it may be too bulky over the zytel scales, but maybe I can try them without the scales.

New to me: I'll try it!

I have tried to Micartascales, but I haven't tried roughing them up, or assaulting them for that matter.
I stippled like Dave M on my BK2. I used a wood burner to roughen it up.
Ok, now I'm getting it: wood burner + handle = stippling.

Thx folks! That's a great place to start

You don't have to use a wood burner. Most "stipplers" use a soldering iron of sorts. You only need a hot shaped tip.

I do have a soldering iron Dave with three tips of different sizes. I will give it a go when I get my iron out of storage
