This is some really nice black ash burl wood. It comes from right here in Minnesota. It is quite similar to oak and it is often used as a substitute. It is really hard. When in burl form the normally open grain of black ash closes up tightly and becomes virtually non-existent. To get an idea compare the burl to the wild blocks and you can see the difference. Look closely at the early wood. The burl pin stays completely closed with no open core. Very nice.
