Black Clips

Ronald - At this time we do not have plans to make the pivot black. The pivot requires adjusting at the manufacturing level and we're not sure what this will do to the coating.

We selected a black chrome coating which has tested well compared with other coatings (on clips). We're still testing different coatings at this time. The ELU wouldn't wait for the testing to be completed, so they are helping us test.

My personal carry has the black clip with silver pivot pin and screws as The black screws were not in yet. Yes, they are visible, but not nearly so "bright" as the silver clip against my jeans. We'll have to proceed slowly and with observation. Coating clips for sale (and collection) is simple compared to coating clips for daily hard "use".

Nobody wants their coating to come off, even if they use the knife hard. Is it covered under warrantee? Now coat the pivot (different steel)? What about the assembly screws? Lanyard? Stop pin? AHA! Let's coat the blade....Gee? I didn't realize it would cost so much? I'll take the regular model thank you.

If we proceed slowly and we have the forumites, and "close" ELU to assist in the refinement process, we can produce a better product. Evolution is often a more secure improvement than mutation.

Adding a RL to the Military will again change the dynamics of the design. The Military is our "in house lab rat". The ultimate "tough buddy" design in a folder. The folder you take with you regardless of where you are going. Desert, jungle or North Pole. We hope to also offer a "High corrosion resistance model" with cobalt and titanium. At 100 degrees below 0 (F), zytel breaks like crackers. What about in space? Yes a FB is simple and strong, but twice the size and bulk of an equivalent folder and still needs a sheath. Sorry for the rant.

We do appreciate all of the questions and opinions.

Sal, thanks for the reply. I am curious about the black coating on the Endura and Delica models. Is this coating not able to withstand the rigors of daily use? If this is not the case, why not use this coating on the Military Clips?

Hey, Sal, don't be sorry for the rant! Some of us learn a lot from your rants.

We're just sorry you don't have time to rant more.
