If you’re doing a lot of cutting outside (fishing, hunting, feather sticking, carving, etc) I like a coated blade for the anti glare effect. It’s not as visible to animals with a huge glare coming off the blade and it’s not as hard on the eyes if you’re focusing on a cut.

As many have said

less maintenance on the coated blades.

Not as reflective

Used to be the only option other than the LE safe queens

For the sheath maker it also adds a layer of wiggle room for sheath making ;)
 
Can someone please post pictures of well used satin and stone wash blades, i would like to compare.
 
I do really like coated blades. It comes down in part to personal choice/preference. And yes early on cost/availability played a part.
