Hi my name is Tony, I am a long time lurker first time poster. I would like to know what is the easiest or best way to remove the black coating on an Emerson mini Commander.

i recently just used some 300 and the 600 grit sandpaper to remove the coating around where the washers rotate to make it super smooth.

I may try the sand paper route, I do not have access to a bead blaster though it would make things easier and cooler. I was hoping to give it either a polished or satin finish and then send it to Tom Krein for a new edge.

Sand paper is probably the easiest way to do it at home, you can also use chemical striper with good results and less elbow oils :p

If you want it bead blasted you can easily take the knife to and auto shop or machine shop and get them to do it for you.

Didn't know you where planing on having Tom do a regrind, Hell yea have Tom do the bead blast.

Amen74---The double bevel works just fine. But when you experience a True chisel grind, Krein, you will see the difference in the cutting ability.

Thanks Lycosa,
All this talk of the Krein regrind has got me antsy! These Emersons have thrown me for a loop.
Excellent quality materials and state of the art design. I'm going to EDC Emersons for quite some time.
I haven't felt this way since I bought my first Spydercos, and I've owned and still own many of them.
Pocket time will be shared with EKI's now. What's happening to me? Am I cheating? Oh, what a feeling!:D

So when I contact Tom what do as ask for? Do I just ask for an emerson regrind?

Just ask him for a regrind, if you have any specific features you do or dont
want on the blade just mention that to him in a note you send with the knife.

Tom will ask you but tell him what you'll using your knife for and he'll take it from there. Custom Edge!
