Nicholson bought Black Diamond years ago. Nicholson's were made in the US, Canada and in Europe as well. When they bought a company they left the name on the file for the sake of the customers that used them. The real magic is the steel they used. From what I understand Bethlehem Steel made .130 Carbon steel for them. At one point they changed there manufacturing procedure and there was to much breakage due to the high carbon so they started using 1095 which solved the problem, but left us with the modern day version of the file.
There rasps, in case you've been using them for hawks and such, are made from 1045 at this point so if you plan on making one I would suggest a high carbon bit to weld in for the edge
