I decided to take my new Kifaru MOLLE Express for a 3 day/2 night trip on the Black Forest trail in PA. The 42.5 mile loop trail is near what's called the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. Of course my RC3 went along.

Within the 1st hour I came upon 2 timber rattlers. They were coming out of a downed birch to catch some morning sun. I ended up seeing 5 rattlers. I was on constant scan mode, but no telling how many I didn't see.

My typical camp set up. I planned to do some bushcrafting with the RC3, but I was to beat after 14-15 mile days in mid 80F temps and humid PA air, and just doing normal backpacking chores of meal prep, cleanup, water gathering, hanging bear bags, etc.

A shot of the RC3.

There were a lot of roller coaster climbs...but the views were rewarding. I plan to do this loop in the fall to catch the leaves turning color.

Some views I missed completely by hitting them early morning. They were socked in by fog that formed at night over the runs, streams, and rivers. Still a cool view.

And one final shot.

Great pictures. Looks like fun. I'd love to see more pictures of that pack. Good stuff.

nice pics, i live in cumberland county pa, i camped at the pa grand canyon(pine creek gorge) last year, great trip and great views. cant wait to go back, i'll have to look that trail up myself.

Cool. Some buddies and I used to canoe Pine Creek through the grand canyon of pennsylvania. Pretty area.

Seen plenty of snakes over the years...but never a rattler quite that close*small- shudder*!! Great pics!

Jake, beandip:
The tarp tent is a Black Diamond Betamid light. It's advertised as 1.4 lb, 50 sqft interior space, 44" max height. Basically it's very roomy for minimal weight. With sil nylon construction, it packs small too.

It's weathered any storm I've ever been in, has plenty of room for me and gear, allows room for inside cooking on the nasty days, and I can wear my boots inside of it without trashing the rest of my space.
