This is a custom order that I just finished, the Ivory is black as I've ever seen. (photo doesn't do the knife justice)

Anyone have knives with black Ivory or very dark Ivory? would like to see them.:)

Folder - #1107
Scales - Mammoth Ivory
ATS34
Closed - 3 7/8''

Thanks!

I remember Bruce Bump using some black ivory on a couple of his knives.
Maybe he will see this and post some photos.
I didn't want to get in trouble for copying images from his website.

I am sure Mark Knapp will have used some,
and you know DH3 will have used some as well.
I am looking forward to seeing the photos that get posted.

Good looking Folder and Ivory.
Here's some mammoth I will use on something someday. Solid black in some areas.

I have to find a picture and get it posted....but Tom Ferry made a "Prestige Series" knife with a beautiful piece of almost totally black ivory...

That's beautiful Todd, Ivory is one of my favorite handle materials. Thanks for starting this thread, I hope to see more added.

Kevin, that is a beautiful set of scales and I hope to see what they end up on.

Don, that's the kind of wonderful I expect in one of your pieces. You never fail to meet or exceed those expectations.

This is black sheephorn, though it looks closely related enough for adding to be seen. Knife by Bill Burke. Photos from Bladegallery.

Black ivory--it has i'ts myths-and a differnet feel--to some--

I just sent a 85 pound section of black mammoth.to a dealer. The colors in ivory are mostly caused by the oxidation of minerals that the ivory is exposed to in the soil. I have seen a recently dug up tan tusk turn a beautiful blue as it drys. As with patinas on bronze many colors can result from the introduction of compinations of minerials in the soil.

I was just contemplating on whether or not to buy some black ivory from one of my vendors. And, after seeing Todd's knife, I just may buy some. Super job on that one, Todd.
