Black KaBar Micarta

Thanks for all the compliments my friends! I'm happy you like them. :) I will keep this thread updated with how they wear and look as they are used.

I will give a few more details in case anyone wants to try it. Its a simple process. I lightly sanded the surface with 400 grit and wiped it down before starting. I put on rubber gloves and use a rag to heavily coat the grips. I let it sit for 48 hours then wipe it down. Do it again, let sit another 48 hours. then a 3rd heavy coat and another 48 hours of drying. Wipe it down with a clean rag again and then rub a good coat of beeswax on it. I just use a room temp block of beeswax. No melting, heating or anything. Then polish it with a rag to clean and shine it up. Done. I am expecting see the bees wax start to wear with use and plan to reapply it possibly monthly.

New picture today.

Very nice.
Are they grippy or slippy.

Thank you trailbum. Very grippy. They are more grippy than the regular zytel handles. Holding a tweener in each hand, one with zytel and one with my black micarta it takes about twice as much pressure to make my thumb slip. I sanded the micarta down a bit then used them for a year before doing this. If someone were to do this with new micarta I think it would be even grippier.

Wow those came out awesome!!! Where did you find the oil dye?

Thanks man! You dont use fiebings for your leather? Great stuff. I order mine from amazon but have picked it up in person at Tandy leather before too. There are 3 kinds of fiebings leather dye. Make sure you get the professional oil dye if you give it a try.
