I bought a black oxide kit through caswall it does an great job but after i blacken stuff there is a black residue that keeps coming off. i washed the parts with thiner and it helps but still doesnt' seeem to solve the problem anyone else had this happen what did you do to remedy the problem thanks chris :)

Try contacting Scott Tanguay here on the forums and ask him for some insight. I have seen some nice knives he has made with that product.

This is one I did with Caswell's product.

thanks
guys going to try let stuff dry longer before i clean it with the thinnernext time

wouldnt clean it with thinner or alcahol the first time you will leave lines in the finish that wont come out with out resanding the whole thing. you could burnish the blade with a fine steel wool after you put the penetrating oil on it, then put more penetrant on it. and let it dry.

I use a similar product. My instructions tell me to hit the steel with steel wool as a final step. This knocks off the residue. After that, I coat it with Rem Oil. I don't use the suggested "Sealing Finish" or whatever they call it.

use fine steel wool to rub the last black coat, then coat with oil and let it sit overnight

thanks guys i'll try doing afew knive the way you suggested with ithe steel wool and oil no peitrating sealer thanks agian chris

Your parkerizing solution is not seasoned, I always throw in some blasted scrap round rod to parkerize first with fresh solution to season the solution.
The black coming off only happens with new solution. Go throw in some scrap steel and parkerize again, then resand the knife and reparkerize.
Chris

After parkerizing you should dunk in cold water for a few mins then coat with WD40 and let sit for a few hours.

The Caswell "Black Oxide" kit is not a Parkerize solution.
