Just picked up a Single Bit axe marked,
TrueTemper
BLACK RAVEN
Kelly Works
No embossing, just the letters.
I found a little info of embossed Black Ravens, but nothing with just the stamped lettering.
Any info?
Thanks.

The reason there have been few responses is 1) Black Ravens are disproportionately desirable/valuable to collectors because of their decorative emboss (that you claim yours doesn't have), and 2) you did not include a self-explanatory picture.

I would like to see a photo for no other reason other than I do not recall seeing an example like the description you gave.

I've only seen photos of that style black raven. 'BLACK RAVEN' was printed in straight text, all caps, along the poll.

all you guys that have a BR, how does it stack up compared to say, a kelly perfect, they were similar in prices in old catalogues that i'v seen and probably similar steel.

is there a functional difference between an $80 axe and a $380 axe

They were priced identically to the Flint Edge. One would suppose they were functionally equivalent, perhaps identical in make. That would make them a very fine axe.

Was that identical price with the embossed Black Raven or the plain stamp?

Prices were from a printed list that didn't show images of the axes. It's been posted here on the forums and I have a copy on my desktop that I can pull up later.

If that is for the plane stamp then it makes sense. I didn't know they existed...
