I've seen some knives on here were the steel is black. Why is this ? Is it a special steel and is it easy or hard to work with...??

Also were can i get some?

thanks..

It's not something special about the steel, it comes from a steel treatment afterwards, and is only surface deep. There's quite a few ways to get a black effect, offhand I can think of etching, powdercoat, forgescale, blueing can get almost black, and I'm sure there's more I'm not mentioning. Do you have a pic of the particular black bladed knife you were wondering about?

I've used a product called Jax Black for nickel, iron and steel. Got it from one of the knifemakers supply houses years ago, works good.

I use Perma Blue Paste and Perma Blue Liguid and 44/40 instant Blue. There are more out there you can get to do the some thing. Tricks of the trade. You can get all the the above at Jantz Supply and Texas Knife Suppies. Hope this will help you. God bless and have a great knife day.
