Black Teflon Coatings

What is the opinion on the black teflon coatings on the new BenchMades? Do they wear off? Are they functional or are they just for looks?

I have a BM mini-stryker with BT2 coating and it has kept the ATS blade like new even where the coating has worn off. It seems to do what was promised. Supposedly it embeds itself something like two microns into the actual steel and therefore even after the topcoat is worn off will continue to protect. Hope that helps. Later.
