Beautiful wood! If it is green, you need to take precautions that it does not split and crack. You can coat the ends with wax. I use an electric frying pan to melt the wax.
You can buy a product called Anchorseal from woodworking stores and paint all the surfaces.
The idea is to slow down the drying process so there is no cracking.
Wood tries to start cracking at the pith, so woodturners cut the pith out of the wood.
Placing the wood in a paper bag will also slow down the drying process.
I would check the wood from time to time and small cracks can be stopped with superglue.
Beautiful wood, a woodturner would love to get ahold of some.

Photo # 2 bottom left piece looks like the face of a man yelling. Also, there is some great contrast in colors that you don't see too much of in walnut. You have defini
tely scored but I think you allready knew that!

Walnut checks and splits badly. Get the cuts sealed soon. It takes a long time to cure, too. Nice looking wood.

That stuff is ugly and will never work as a knife handle. Just send it to me and I will be glad to burn it in my fireplace for you. :D

well the tree has been lying down on the ground for atleast a year. I need to learn how to cut the other pice properly. .I got some good advice, now to follow through with it. Thanks for looking--marekz

The good news about this wood is what we don't see. You must not have had to roll any vehicles to get it! Meaning, the fact that you're sawing wood up again indicates your road to recovery and healing process must be going well...and that GOOD news! Oh ya, and the wood looks good too!
