I just got this slightly used Blackjack 1-7 knife. It is in good shape but has some patina on it as if it was quite a few years old..
On the blade it says "Carbon Steel" on one side and "made in USA"
I have a more recent model 125 that states the steel is "A2 tool steel" right on the blade
The person who sold me the knife did not know where it came from.
Can anyone determine what type pf steel this is with only that information?

The older knives (1990's - early 2000's) were 0170-6, 1095, and 52100. The 0170-6 knives were Western contract knives. If the knife has a pommel drilled for a lanyard, it is post 93, and most likely 1095 or 52100.

Very hard to tell steel type on 90's era US Blackjacks, as Stewart admitted that they just used whatever steel was handy till it was used up.

There is no lanyard hole and the guard looks like brass (yelloish color)

In case that helps

No lanyard hole in buttcap means earlier knife 91 -93, but there is a chance it could still be any of those 3 steels.
