Blackjack knives

They are (semi)custom knives for 2/3s the price. Great materials, craftsmanship and usefulness. All in all one of the best under-rated brands in the knife world.

When you can get this for $200 and a Randall 14 (arguably a better knife) is at least $500, then I say Blackjack is pretty darn nice.

Just a minor clarification here - the baseline price for a Randall 14 is only $365 if it's ordered from the shop. But you had better be awfully patient.

Thank you very much for the help. I currently have a Blackjack panga that I was given and have been using it for a bush knife/machete. I was thinking about getting one of their bowie style blades but was wondering about the quality.
thanks again badlander

Some folks distinguish between the Effingham Blackjacks and the newer ones. Not sure if the newer ones are of the same quality as the Effingham ones.

Effingham Blackjacks are collectable.the quality between the older ones & the newer ones should be the same, hard to beat the A2 when heat treated by mike stewart

Blackjack Knives was started by Mike Stewart, who now owns BRKT. He did some time at Marbles in between. The original company went out of business, and the name was later bought by Ken Warner, and was later changed to Knifeware, Inc.. I think it was recently sold (I've heard Smokey Mountain Knifeworks and Blue Ridge Knives are in some sort of partnership). I believe the knives are still made by Mike Stewart.

I have several of the "original" Blackjacks. Some, like the Model 5, Trial Guide, etc. are excellent knives. Some were made in Japan -- e.g. the Mamba, are while still okay knives aren't as well made imo.

I am still kicking myself for passing up a bunch of the Effingham, Ill. Blackjacks that were being clearanced at a local gun show for $49.00 apiece several years ago. DOH!

Beat me to it.

The best looking Blackjack i ever saw was a smaller kuhkri type sweept blade, with true ivory grips that had scrimshaw on it. It was possibly the most beautiful handle i ever saw. I caught a look of it at a knife store somewhere in boston i think.

If you want to see and talk of old Blackjacks, there is a Blackjacks forum at Knifeforums.com, Mike is there and comments. He also has a Bark River forum there. I also have a few Effingham blades, and their are now safe queens. Mike has said he still makes the classic line (model 7, 5, trailguide, ...)for the new owners (stated above SMKW and Blue Ridge). Warner had some made for China, like the Anaconda 3 and Grunt. The newer classics have also been reviewed in a back issues of Knife World.

Sure you can order one from Randall for $365 and you will have it in a mere 5 to 6 years, but if you want to go out and buy one in the next few months it's more like $500 at least. So in reality what does it cost.

I have had many of the older Blackjacks and the new ones coming out now are every bit as nice.

I have the Halo model pictured above....All I will say is that it made me want to sell some of my other knives. Its that good. You will not be disappointed.

I know that the model 1-7 and 1-5 get all the publicity but the Trailguide is much more practical IMO.

I have one of their folding "Yukon Skinners", which I gave ~$25 for back in the early 90's.
I understand it's now a collectable...??

Does Blackjack make folders anymore?
