Just won a blackjack version of the magnum camp! Pretty excited! I have been going back and forth over looking for one or stocking up on an extra bk 5 (kabar) and i’m glad i waited! And now the REAL wait begins ....o_O

Does anyone know if the kabar scales fit this model? I am not totally in love with how plastic the ones that come with it look. I will gove them a shot though. I guess i could always get a set of micarta and sand them to fit if they don’t work out.

Nice Score Meshach! I don't think you will like it I will trade you a KaBar 5 :D don't know if the scales will fit never had the pleasure of owning a Blackjack 5 Congrats

I never ender up with a blackjack magnum camp... the few that I saw always went higher than I was willing to pay.
Definitely a keeper... the waiting is the hardest part (especially with USPS' recent track record)

Thanks! I have been searching high andlow and it finally happened! I am excited to see the difference, particularly in thickness. The thinnes of the kabar is part of why i love it but i also feel like it will break easier if i push it too hard (highly unlikely but still!)

I know! Way higher than i was willing to pay either! Just got lucky on a good deal. I have had good luck with knives lately, found a benchmade 940 like new on the beach last week. Usps sent my last package to the wrong post office 30 minutes away!
I saw that on ebay
It was at $91 :D
ya! People tried to snipe it but i put in the highest bid!

I havent dug through my pile of BKs recently - I'm sure I've got a Camillus magnum camp... for some reason, I'm thinking it might be two.

"it's called Estaloc"

it moves :D

standard handles are very close, but you might have to make adjustments (even to the metal), or get customs made, the metal might be a bit more tweaked larger in some places.

Nice! Are the camillus as thick a stock as the blackjack?

good to know! Thanks Bladite.

According to the database thread, all three are the same thickness (3/16"); but the Camillus and Blackjack are a little longer than the Kabar...and the Camillus has a thicker coating.
(I'm too lazy right now to pull them out and look at them...but my aging eyes aren't great at differentiating in the 0.01" range, anyway)

The BJ is .21. The cam .198. Kabar .188 the bj is my favorite by far, I think your going to love it. More even balance, less blade flexibility. The kabar has a good amount of flex and has a handle heavy balance. I never like the bk5 design until I got a BJ. To me the kabar is a fine meat processing tool. The Bj is a (magnum) camp knife.

Weights are: BJ 14.45oz. Cam 14.45oz. kabar 12.05oz.

My only concern is the edge looks wavy in a few spots?

I dont have any knives in 440c or that are convexed (which i am guessing this is) so i don’t know if its common or not. Should i just sharpen it out and call it good?

someone was rough on that. try a "steel" first, and then sharpen.

Like a kitchen sharpening steel? I’ll give it a shot. Would a ceramic rod work? Is a convex this thin not able to take as much abuse?
A ceramic rod will work go easy at first in case of high spots. It should do the trick and you will have a razor  A convex should be a stronger edge , like Bladite said someone did something they shouldn't have .

Thanks xr6x! They might have hit a nail in a piece of wood or somethin. It happens.
