Blackjack magnum camp knife inbound!

hit nail. cut nail. moved on...

a basic butcher's steel, or better, a very smooth hard steel rod - aka a burnisher. stroke that edge back into alignment... plus you get free work hardening?

worst case, a bit of peening of sorts.

So i spent a long time using the ceramic rod, and it helped a little. Then i switched to a steel and it worked a little better but seemed like it was taking off too much metal. So then i switched to a mediu-fine-fine sharpening stone, which seemed to work the fastest but also take off some metal. My ocd side took over and i worried i took off to much metal altogether, the blade is now about as wide as my kabar bk5, and the blackjack seemed wider originally. O well! I got the warp or whatever that was pretty much all gone, you can still see it a tiny bit in certain lights if your looking for it. Not gonna stress on it. Its shaving sharp and im gonna wale on it anyway. Got to chop a few vines and it can clear cut standing grass like a scythe!
Gonna keep updating with use and mod photos! Dont want to turn this into one of those “omg i ruined my knife (but really its fine)” threads.

I too, accidentally hit a piece of metal. I think i am over this knife, i will be putting it up in the exchange. Do you think i should sell as is or reshape it with a file (it would take off ALLOT of metal)

BUMMER!:( That's not good. Don't file it , I think maybe a floor standing belt sander and the expert know how would be best as you wouldn't want it to get to HOT . That for sure from the pics is going to be a lot of metal removal and you will want to keep that convex edge. Dang sorry to see that happened

Sell It As Is. It's fixable with a lot of time and patience

thanks, it sucks, but it is what it is. I really had high hopes for this knife, but i feel like it fell short (before the massive chipping). It has amazing balance which makes it feel lighter than the 5 and the leather sheath is top notch. But it wasnt what i was hoping for and actually preffer the bk5. I was going to put it up soon anyway but then this happened :(
I wonder about the heat treatment they were doing back then, it doesnt really matter at the end of the day though.

accidentally grazed a piece of galvanized steel. It was my fault, but i feel like the 1095cv kabar is putting out now wouldn’t have done that, or maybe it would, not going to test it lol.

Thats the way i would want to go at this point, i just don’t have a clue where to start pricing. If anyone has suggestions please pm me. I might just put it up on thebay on bid if i cant figure a price out.

I have snapped a few Stainless knives growing up, abused of course. I've put 1095 under much more stress with non issue. I truly wonder if say S30V would take the punishment that 1095 takes. S30V is definitely a great steel as am sure the other newer super steels are too but for hard use ? I don't know ? 3V from what I've heard is another story can take a lot of punishment not sure it's Stainless though but it's like ah ah EXPENSIVE! I'll stick with 1095 :D Again Meshach sorry that happened.

Wow! That's quite some edge damage right there. I usually try and stay away from metal when I'm swinging hard! That edge could be salvaged, but it would take a long time by hand, and a good bit of metal would have to be removed. Of course you would lose the original overall profile of the blade as well.

Aww man, those pics make me very sad. I’m sorry that happened.

I might try to fix it up. It wont be too bad i don’t think? Unless someone wants to trade for a bk5? :p

I think I’d approach the same as you; make lemonade. Have fun with making the knife truly yours. Could be a grand experiment!
