Don't know how many knifemakers are interested in blacksmithing in general but wanted to share some of my good news.

A lady I work with has a pre-teen daughter interested in blacksmithing and I hooked her up with one of my books by Lorelei Simms, The Backyard Blacksmith. Great book btw:thumbup:

Anyway, they got the daughter hooked up with local 4H because they have blacksmithing available to students in the our chapter. Because of that, I found out they have a local blacksmithing association meeting this Saturday. One of the leaders is interested in seeing the chopper I forged.

But the really cool news is that the 4H group is going on a field trip to Charleston, IL to visit the wrought iron diva's smithy and I was invited to attend as well. :D Check her out http://blacksmithchic.com

Thanks for the link, Kerry. There's something way appealing about a woman covered in smithy dirt. :) Is there a bio in the book? I wonder if she went through the SIU metal arts program?

Sounds like a fun trip!! She's quite an artist.

Dang. What a shop huh? Neato!

Ill check the book on that fitzo. One thing I like in the book is a nice closeup of her right arm(bicep/forarm relaxed pose) all flexed and dirty and sweaty. :)

Yea her smithy is very cool and she knows how to use it. How freakin cool is that.:D

WOW i need to show my GF this...she wants me to get her a forge so she can do ornimental ironwork and sculptures....she would love this
thanks for the link!

It's a great book!.... lot's of simple practical advice... and good pics and drawings... Worth the price
Her maternal Great Great Father, Soren Zachariassen, was a seventh generation coppersmith.... she was interested and exposed to metal work at a young age.... Undergraduate in art and sculpture.... opened Five Points Blacksmith Shop in Charleston, Illinois in 1993....
Nice flex pic in the book of her bicep and forearm....

BOW CHIKA WOW WOW..........*DROOLS* dang she is beautiful. how old is she. is she single? HEHEHEHEHEHE!!!!! i would love to have a girlfriend and future wife whos into the stuff that she is. and who looks as hot as she does. i always love seeing women in those types of fields. women who arent afraid to get down in dirty in the shop are my kind of women.

Lorelai was invited to demonstrate at my guild's annual "Blacksmith Days" this year, but due to some health issues she's on a limited forging schedule and so couldn't do it this year.

Her book is excellent, though I haven't had time enough to read all of it yet, I really look forward to doing it. It appears that she has a slightly less traditional view on some things (my guess is that it's due to her design/art training). I like folks who don't lock themselves in the box.

Do you REALLY want a girlfriend/wife that can beat you in an arm wrestle?

i wouldnt care. at least she would get out into the shop with me and be working right next to me. think about how much fun it would be to have a wife working next to you in the shop and also the types of knives you could offer at a show.

as you can see i myself am single and will probably stay like this for a good bit. id rather be able to afford new "toys" and steel and not have to worry about taking her out to eat or getting her things. one reason why i was able to use my savings on what i do have and still have some left over for a couple more things. like filling up my propane tank and buying a few pieces of steel and handle material.

A GOOD wife is nothing but an asset no matter how you slice it. She'll help, not hinder your achievement.:) (this is the voice of experience! )
