Here's a little hunter I just did. I recycled a Nicholson file, tested it by cutting 3/8 in. sisal rope 200x...shaves very cleanly with hardly any wear on the edge.
The handle was made by splitting the tang, shaping, then forge-welding @ the tail-end of the knife. It's wrapped with hemp impregnated w/wood hardener. Thanks to my dad for the cool little sheath. These are fun little knives to make, and a good way to re-use those files! Hope y'all like it...comments welcome.

One of the nicest "blacksmith" type knives I've seen. Looks really comfortable too. The split and rewelded handle is a really great idea.

That is one really nice looking hunter. Well done sir.

That is real sweet Ben I like how you left just enough file that I can see it was a file

Wow, I absolutely love it! Like David said you left the perfect amount of file marks on it in the jimping area. Also very sweet idea on splitting then forge welding. I give it 11/10! ;)

Thanks guys. I have to get four blacksmithies done before January...along with other orders:eek:

Dang it, you beat me to it! :grumpy: :p

I have another one of those infamous little fixed pocket blades out in the shop with the tang split... but I never got any further than that. I thought it would be a neat way to add visual interest and make it feather-light.

Looks like you already got that figured out Ben. :D
