Yesterday, looking around for a Victorinox Soldier as a groomsman's gift, found the best price at www.blackwatercutlery.com. Yay, says I, and I place the order. Then, as an afterthought, I come search the forum to make sure I didn't just screw up.

Bad news. Of course there are only a couple of hits that turn up for BWC, and all extremely negative. I want to cry. I'm about to get screwed, and money's tight. Do I just cross my fingers? Do I try to cancel the order? Do I not even bother calling the company, and just call the credit card co. and tell them don't pay it (I know, that would have been a bad idea)?

I compromise. I sent an email that says "I see your website promises all orders processed in 24 hours. Please send me a confirmation email and tracking number for the package asap." Not that I was expecting a response. But I figured that this way, I'm still within not only my rights, but the bounds of courtesy as well.

Then, lo and behold, I get an email back; not even two hours have elapsed. It says, "Just checked, your item's out of stock. Want something different? Or cancel order?" Glory be! No more nailbiting. I don't have to test their reliability. Here's my out, even though BWC just showed me that they're not so bad after all.

So I cancel, order from New Graham, sleep in peace, and resolve to check reputation before ordering from now on.
