Received this BC Jr today and was keen to see the blackwood burl. As soon as I opened the package I knew that this was a special wood.

It is very hard to take pics as the wood is very dense and smooth and reflects light and attracts fingerprints.

here are a few quick shots that I took.

Some shots in regular diffused natural light :

And then.....

When sunlight hits the burl you see the actual beauty of this wood. It almost has a jewel like quality. Move over Bog oak

Wow!!! That is beautiful!!! Almost like Redwood burl and Koa had a grand love child!!!! :D

ETA - If you really want to see the chatoyance in the wood, shine that baby up to 1,200 grit, polish it with some Flitz, and then hit it with a coat of Ren Wax!!!

Thanks all. Very pleased with my new wood discovery.

I might try and polish it up to 1200 and see what that brings out. It really is a regular old wood until it hits the sunlight and then BAM!!!!!

Wow Abe, that is spectacular! The pictures I have seen before really don't do justice to the figuring in that burl. Nice one!

That is gorgeous Abe. I have to agree African Blackwood is nicer than Bog Oak!

The blackwood burl looks fantastic! Congrats on scoring that epic BC Jr Abe!

Wow. That's a stunner. Nice one Abe. Great photos, but I bet the photos don't even do it justice.

Thanks guys [emoji106] the pics don't do it justice. Will try and take some better ones.

That is gorgeous Abe, nice score! I love the hard-to-see figure in regular blackwood when the right light hits it. The burl is amazing!

yep

those are much better pics than mine

Actually your pics were great Phillip. Much better than I could have done indoors and planted the seed in my head.

Thanks Brian, it's this quality of the wood makes it stand out IMO.
