Do any of you fine folks have your African Blackwood stabilized? I believe it is on the list as o.k. to have it done but I wondered if anyone does. If so how did you like it. I sure do like Blackwood.

Thanks a bunch

I have worked both natural and stabilized blackwood. I really like the durability of blackwood. I did not notice that much of a difference in the two but the satbilized material was much darker and if there is any figure it was masked by the resins. I got my stabilized blackwood from gallery hardwoods. Give Larry a call and he can probably set you up to try some.

I have blackwood stabilized as I find that if heat it a little too much in the finishing process it may cup.

Mike at WSSI has stabilized African Blackwood for me. He cautioned that, because it is a memeber of the rosewood family, it may weep a bit. Mine did not weep and came out beautiful, without noticeable darkening. On a finished handle, it may the most beautiful wood I've ever seen.

Rob!

Thanks guys. I was on the fence over this. I guess I will get some stabilized at least.

Thanks again
