Blade '04 Preview: Bailey Bradshaw

I had asked Bailey to send me some pics of his Blade knives and he most graciously agreed. Now I'm regretting it. Why? 'Cause this is KILLIN' ME - that's why. :mad: You guys going to Blade are in for some eye candy (pics and descriptions by Bailey):

12 1/4" bladed "S" guard bowie. The blade is clay heat treated W-2. The hamon is faint but visible. I wanted the overall shape and size to be the focus, not the hamon. The fittings are heat colored and gold inlaid. I forged the scrolls on the guard with my little peening hammer. The ricasso is wrapped in silver. The handle is amboynia burl (best piece I have ever used)

Integral bowie. Mastodon ivory, sculpted ricasso and 11" "falling ladder" pattern damascus. The finial is heat colored and gold inlaid. The pommel is sculpted damascus.

Presentation hunter with amboynia burl handle. Blade is 5" of 1095. Guard is sculpted engraved with gold inlaid borders.

One more....The Bowie No 1 reproduction. This one is to deliver to a customer. It was a tough knife to make. Jerry Fisk, Roger Massey and a couple of others said they wouldn't make another one. I can see why....

Baileys work continues to bowl me over, I suspect his table will empty pretty damn fast.

I can only console myself with the knowledge that BB will be starting on a modest 6-7" Damascus and Blackwood Fighter for moi, shortly after his return from the Blade Show. :cool:
 
With work like that Bailey has moved himself into that upper echelon
Incredible work especially the damascus integral...georgeous!
 
Bailey is just frickin' amazing. Hopefully I can make it next year to meet him and pick one up for myself.

Bailey, when you get back from Blade and have some time, could you tell us a little about that Bowie No 1? I've never seen anything like that.
 
Bowie no.1 is one of my favorite knives and I would really like to hear from Bailey whether he had the chance to study the original so that he could use it as a model for that knife. Hopefully when he gets back from Blade he will be able to shed more light on that knives inspiration.
 
Those pics were great. The knives were even more awesome. Bailey was next to Vince and Grace whose table was also stunning beyond words and pics.
 
Beautiful! All of them! On the "Falling Ladder" pattern, is that done when the grooves are cut into the billet, or does it happen during the forging process?
 
FYI - that Bowie No. 1 won the award from the Antique Bowie Knife Association for best antique reproduction.
