Blade 2008 show review

STeven,

That was a great revue. It was nice to finally meet you. Even though I have been collecting for awhile it was my first Bladeshow. I can see from your review that there was alot that I missed.

Ever tried Pappas Bros. Steak House in Dallas? My favorite of most mentioned. If you like wine there's hardly a limit.

Truly out of this world.

If you want wine with your steak, then there is only one place to go....Bern's in Tampa. The wine list may be bigger than the Tampa phone book. Anyone for a shot of 1812 Argmanac? Now the place is decorated like a Baroque whorehouse, but is still an experience not to be missed.:D

Real good to see you too, Michael!! You are making some really sweet knives.

Also good to see the TwinBlades table, re-visit with Mace Vitale, Aldo Bruno and Keith Kaiser, Neil Ostroff, Steven Rapp and meet *John White, Chuck Kerwin, Murray and Phyllis White, Jim Treacy, Stephan Fowler* at the CKCA dinner alone, as well as Beavis's, I mean Matt Roberts', lol, lovely wife, just off the top of my head.

Coop thinks I remember it all, but I always forget to mention something or someone....there is just too much/too many people there.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
Beavis? nah.......Little Lord Fauntleroy:D As for you comment about needing 5 days, I would also add a requirement for one of those electric hover-round chairs if you over the age of 30:eek::D

"Yeah, maybe I will have to start taking knife collecting more seriously."

That's the funniest damn thing I've read this week! Keith, once you get up to speed, give me some pointers, eh? ;)

What made Rathbun's fall a little short in my eyes was the sides. I like the old style of Steak House sides, while Kevin's sides have his own style. They are not for me. Now the Butternut Squash Risotto appetizer was beyond belief. We both had the Dry aged Cowboy Ribeye. Cooked to perfection, each steak had a distinct flavor. A very good steak house, just not the best in Atlanta yet. Kevin's first restaurant Rathbun's is worth a long look.

Chops and Bones is the more traditional Steak House in the old school tradition of Peter Luger or Berns of Tampa. Service is a notch above Rathbun's, most of the staff have been there over 10 years. I love the dark interiors with a great wine list. Our last meal at Chops was a Graduation Celebration. The 48oz porterhouse was the best steak, I have had the pleasure to eat. It could have been the magnum of Dom that started the meal off or the two bottles of 91 Opus we brought in. That was one great meal.

I guess you fellas never go to Golden Corral, huh? ... the rest of us who only dream about this "Butternut Rissotto", mish mash. Yeah, I think I'm finally getting a grasp of this whole "Custom Knife" phenomenon..

It's about the food. :D

..OR it should be!

STeven,
If you haven't given up on this thread yet...
Can we talk about something SERIOUS.

Send Keith To Blade in 09

Would this work as a raffle or benefit? For the new club, an item on the table?
With your connections, influence, organizational skills... you are the obvious choice as SPONSOR. He needs it. (And You know all the good restaurants.) What do you think?

Melvin,
Welcome back! I remember reading your posts a long time ago.. then, a long absence (5 yrs.?). Is that right?

David,

LOFL, when I have gone to Blade in the past, Jock and Jill's or whatever the phukk it is called is the best meal that I have had...and it is a stretch to call it a "GOOD" meal, adequate comes to mind, maybe serviceable...the idea this time was to actually get away from the knife festivities for a short time, have a good meal with great people, and enjoy it for a change...this was mission accomplished, as far as we were concerned, and I will do it again, but maybe at Chop's next time.

Keith can send himself to Blade, he has just chosen not to until this point, stating that he would rather have a custom knife, for the cost of attending. I think Blade is worth the price of two good custom knives to attend, and hopefully with my show reviews, Keith and fellows like him can see the value in going to a show, and feel inspired to do so.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
