Well what can I say this was the most fun I have had at a knife show

I knew I was in trouble when after flying in Early Thurs my roomate STeven woke me up to 3 shots of whiskey to start our day off.

It was so great to see old friends and make new ones. Way to many to mention here.

Many I met thru the CKCA and for that alone the price of admission to that organization has been worth it ten fold.

Did alot of drinking and eating and talking to great people with a backdrop of some fantastic knives.

The CKCA Banquet and the dinner at Bones that STeven aranged where highlights.

20 some years in knives and what I have learned is that it is so much more than the knives it is the people involved with the knives that makes this such a great thing

Thanks to everyone that was there for making Blade 2010 so much fun.

Now on to the knives

There was some great stuff to say the least again to many to mention.

My goal this year was to pick up an order from Burt Foster. It was to be one of his laminated blades. This is an ancient form of bladesmithing but Burt has really brought it to the forefront of the custom knife world with his stainless and carbon blades and I believe it is here to stay. Example of this is the John Horrigan Bowie that one Best Bowie at this years Blade. It was a fantastic piece and I am not saying it won because it had a laminated blade but it sure did not hurt it.

My order was originally for a laminated Bowie from Burt but many probale remember that I switched the order to a Persian style Bowie/Fighter after seeing Thors last year at Blade.

Originaly it was going to have a sculpted Blackwood handle but in the 11th hour I switched it to my old favorite Stag. I am glad I did.

I wanted subdued fittings and an Ancient look that was timeless.

In my opinion Burt really delivered

My taste's are pretty plain and this knife really pushes my limit when it comes to whimsical or how would you say kinda fantasy pieces.

Make no mistake this Blade is nasty, sharp and pointy. With the exagerated long clip it can not help but have massive distel taper which gives it a light feel with plenty of power for it's size. The deep curve of the blade gives it a hugh sweeping cutting surface and the deep sharpened clip is like an Eagle talon on steroids. This thing will cut ya going in or coming out.

I also picked up one of his Little Darkside EDC's with leather and Kydex

I also grabbed one of Jason Knights new full tang Military Blades that I will post pics of when I get it back. The great Paul Long took it with him to work his Magic.

I sent Burt some of my Cape Buffalo skin and some Warthog Ivory from my last hunting trip to Africa and wow what a sheath he came up with. Again Ancient and timeless and totaly personalized with critters I have shot and ate. This might be the first knife that does not have to go to the Great One P Long

The Persian

Excuse the poor photo's I had bad lighting with much glare and shadows and these pics kinda loose the dramatic dark look of the edge. Burt took proper photos and will send them when he gets home

very impressive, is that a tooth on the bowies sheath? the antler has an amazing texture! love the little necker too, forge finish is great!

great pics Joe.

Looking really good.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Joe,

It was great seeing you again. The photos came out great, but the knives look even better in person.

Congratulations on two nice knives,

Very true. The photo cannot do that Foster Persian justice.

That knife is all kinds of curvy cool and the sheath is terrific too. Stag was the right call, and that's a really nice piece. Congrats to you and Burt.

Fantastic......a marvelous knife, one of my favorites from Mr. Foster to date.

Thanks for the picutres. :)

Joe, it was great meeting and visiting with you at the show. Thanks for letting me handle this bad-ass Perisan! Burt did deliver, and the personal sheath makes it an awesome packaged deal. Good stuff!

Joe, (and Burt of course) that persian really turned out amazing!:thumbup::thumbup: Especially due to the stag handle imo. When I saw the original drawing, I felt that too many curves in the handle might be a bit much what with all the curves in the blade. The stag is a huge complement to the rest of the knife, and not only that but the sheath and your harvesting of its components brings it up more than a notch. The performance of that knife should be off the charts, it would be so much fun to swing around, which I know that you will do:)

3 shots of whiskey for breakfast eh? Sounds like my kind of good time:D:thumbup: Also, judging by a photo I received from a friend here on the forum, I'd have felt right at home there;)

As for your darkside, I got one of them awhile back and it still is my favourite edc. You might want to consider a pocket sheath with a clip for that, if it's one of the smaller ones. Super duper handy fo sho!

Joe,

You're as large in person and spirit as I hoped. GREAT meeting you!

Knives: Outstanding. Just look why!

OK, fill me in: Forget about the crappy photos ;) What I need to know is where did you drive to that has snow between Sunday 90° in Atlanta, and today in Pennsylvania at 80°?

Just asking. :D

It was good to finally meet you Joe, congrats on some fine knives! Burt's Persian was one of my favorites of the show.

Joe: That Burt Foster really rocked. Great hanging with you at the show, your a class act.

Thanks everyone so much

I was really excited nervous abot this Blade with balance and feel meaning so much to me and the exagerated shape and such.

But what can I say Burt is a remarkable Blade Smith and really can make a well balanced blade.

Robert.B

It is the tip of a Wart Hog tusk it is Ivory and that particular Ivory makes a great front site bead it will not yellow with age

Coop where do I begin it was so nice seeing you and your lovely wife you are truly great real people and I look forward to getting to know you folks better.

I was going to bring this knife to you for pics but Burt said he had taken really good photos of it and we know Mr. Foster does a pretty good job and you looked kinda busy:D

The snow was in my living room

Joe,

that freakin pronghorn on your wall is the biggest I've ever seen. It looks prehistoric. I keep looking to see if it's real. Where was it taken?

Nice Foster's BTW.

Hi Bailey

17 inches New Mexico near Raton

360 yds dead on faceing me

I maybe could of waited for him to get closer but I did not want to take any chances

When ya see good ones like that I believe ya shoot um when ya can:D

If your taking heads like that, I think you would do well to be shooting a dandy rifle made by....well.....ME. :-)

Truly a world class pronghorn. I figured it had to be from New Mexico. They grow the biggest.

The pics do not do this blade justice. I think the fake snow had something to do with it:D! Just had the pleasure of holding this scary blade in my hand and it is incredible!! Burt did awesome work on this one. Good score Joe!
