I'm in the market for a 10"+ busse family knife, but I am having a really hard time deciding. Right now I'm considering the Dogfather and the Bushwacker Mistress. I would prefer INFI, but is the extra cost for the BWM worth it? Does anyone know how the chopping ability compares?

Any other knife I should consider? I can't afford a FBM, NMFBM, etc. unless I sell my NMSFNO, which I would only do if it was truly worth it.

I appreciate any advice I can get.

Yeah it would be worth it to get a FFBM or NMFBM, but that is up to you if you want a monster chopper.

I agree with Ankerson. For a big difference, you'll need a heavier knife than the BWM. They're great for a 10" light knife, but after using them side by side, I think my NMSFNO chops just as well.

I really want a NMFBM, but I'm not sure if it would be better to just have a NMFBM, or both a NMSFNO and a BWM/DF.

I think it depends on what you really want. :)

The NMFBM is the top of the food chain.

As a note the NMFBM can do smaller knife tasks as well. :D

It depends on if you want 2 knives or one knife.

That's been my concern on the BWM because its so thin. I want a good chopper.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Well you could always keep your NMSFNO which is a great all around knife, and just save up a little more coin to get your Busse chopper. ;)

Thanks for the help everyone. This is a tough decision. I don't think I will be satisfied until I have a NMFBM. My NMSFNO may just end up on the exchange in the near future.

Some folk think the NMSFNO is a great one knife, all-rounder. I prefer the FSH or HHFSH in that role.

NMCGFBM is THE monster chopper. But is is a heavy SOB. The CGFBM or CGBWM may be a better utility Mistress. Combine with a 3 - 4" blade and you're good to go.

I have a NMSFNO and a FFBM, the NO is great for batoning but for a chopper, the FFBM wins by far. I've never used a NMFBM but my fatty blows through anything. I love my NMSFNO, it was my first, but after getting and using the BM I wounder if I should have gotten the NO. But in general, if you want something that chops better than your NO, then any battle mistress will do.

Are you going to carry or pack it? If so, the BWM is a winner in my book for chopping ability vs. weight.

I dont think you should get rid of the NMSFNO. That is is one of the best all-rounders there is. You may see a need for having "only" an eight inch knife sometime in the future. If you get rid of it and get a NMFBM (which by the way is an AWESOME chopper) , I will guarantee that you will be buying another busse soon after in the 8 inch or less category.

The DF is prob equivalent to the chopping power of the NMSFNO. The BWM prob has a little more umph than both...but obviously less than the FFBM or the NMFBM.

if I were you I would prob either go with the BWM and keep the NMSFNO. BwM approx cost= $450

or sell the NMSFNO $375 and buy a NMFBM $550 and a Tank Buster/ASH/BJ $350 = approx cost $525

I am new to the family and dont have my dogfather in hand. But the BWM is a great all around knife. With the big choil combined with the lighter weight. You could easily get away with it as your only knife. While the NMFBM will out chop no question about it, it is just to damn big for smaller tasks IMO. The BWM is a great value for sure, but might not be that big of a difference than what you have.

I just got a CGBWM a week ago and i love it! ive chopped and battoned with it and it does very well...but as mentioned it doesnt chop with the big boys...but it did very well...i like it alot...its well balanced and the handle is awesome:D You might as well try one while at factory prices:D

NMFBM and Cultellus. I don't see a role for an 8 inch blade when you have an 11.5 inch blade, unless its just true love or a collection.

If its chopabilty you want, its the NMFBM you need. Otherwise you're just hitting wood with a sharp knife.
