Blade blackening

I painted a hatchet black with a spray paint called tremclad rust reformer. I want to use it to blacken a knife blade. Will it rub off easily from the knife? It seems to hold up fine on the hatchet but maybe a knife is different. Has anyone done this before?

I use the spray paint from Brownell's that a bake on finish. Degrease part, spray it, heat dry it with a hair dryer / heat gun, spray again, bake in the oven at 275 degrees and you'll have a finish that is extremely durable. The rust reformer that you're referring to will eventually rub off although it is fairly durable. Basically it's meant to transform the rust into a primer bond for spray paint.
