Blade blackening

Gentlemen.
One of my sons friends bought a knife with a cord wrap on it and asked me to put wooden handles on it. Well I did, I got to within a 1/16 of an inch of the tang, but I would like to make the handle flush with the steel, which means, probably removing the black coating. What can I use to reblacken the tang.

Gun Cote? Tremclad flat black?

What can I use to reblacken the tang.

It's going to be very hard to match anything you have now.

I hope you haven't glued up the handles yet. You might have to resand and refinish the whole blade.
