Hi all! As a Veteran Owned and Operated small business, I want your input for this knife/blade business model:

I want to start a monthly subscription Blade Club ($10/month) which allows club members to purchase quality knives ($100-$300) at a lower low price level. For example, Benchmade's MAP is 15% off of MSRP, and as a member of the Blade Club your price will be 20-40% off of MSRP.

This is the jist of it. Please give me some feed back and ask question.

Thanks,

STY

So how many knives would you have to buy just to make up the $120 a year membership fee?

And how could/would you sell below MAP?

.

Are you suggesting a lower monthly membership fee? That is possible, but I believe you'll make your money back after buying 2-3 knives. I can sell below MAP because every knife requested will be dealt through email, so I won't violate the map policy.

Also, the big 3 have MAP in effect so if you sold them for under MAP you wouldn't be a dealer for them anymore.

Wait wait wait... so if you are not going to advertise the price, which would force MAP, then how would I know someone isn't getting a better deal than I am.

Also, $120/year means I would need to save more than that, for this to even be worth it.

One more thing... If you're going to advertise here, you might want to look into a paid membership...

You need to have a membership to advertise here, period.
What you are suggesting might not fly with manu manufacturers when they find out and they will. There is a reason they sell at a certain price point.
If you think undercutting everyone else in the game is going to work out, you might want to think again. It's not something that I've ever seen have much success. I know of 6 manufacturers that would no longer supply you immediately, if they caught wind of you doing this. Not mich to discuss since we are already violating and borderlining on a few rules.
