i purchased an strider MT-L with the tiger stripe finish and was wondering what type of coating it is and how long i expect it to last. great knife, i love it.

The tiger stripes are actually not a coating. They are black oxide left on the knife during the process of making the knife. The tiger stripe is formed by bead blasting the oxide off in the pattern that you see.

My MT-L is my favorite Stider fixed blade.

thanks for the info. it really makes the knife unique people awalys want to hold it when i bring it out. so the oxide deposites should be fairly durable huh?

Actually it is carbon deposits left over from heat treatment and then are bead blasted removing the carbon and giving it the tiger stripe look. From my experience it is a fairly durable finish.
