Blade coatings and finishes

I am looking for some information on ceramic-meadia polishing blades. I am also interested in CVD and DLC coatings as well. Does anyone know where I can get the equipment for these procedures or is it all too expensive for the small time custom maker.

I think this would be better posted in the Makers Forum. I'm not familiar with CVD but I'm sure DLC is only done in large batches and is not avaialble to the individual maker.

sorry man wish i could help. i have heard of people using gun kote on there blades but im not sure how well it would hold up on a blade

how about chrome? should one just shoot for a guntype chromer? i know of a couple of those offhand.

dont know of any that specialize in knife coating though.

right now i use a teflon/epoxy coating that holds up VERY well. I have heard that the ceramic-media polish is tumbled like polishing stones, but I can't find any info on it either.

I have e-mailed Surefire to ask about the ceramic-media polish finish of some of their knives. The reply I got told me it is a proprietary process and that they would not give me any more information. I am thinking of getting a rock tumbler, and have found a source for ceramic polishing media.
