What is the grey coating often found on a folding knife blade? I think a Gerber Paraframe knife has this.

And what is titanium oxide coating?

thanks in advance . :)

Not sure what the coating would be specifically but someone will I'm sure.

If you're new to the coating game, there are a lot of them out there. Some good, some not so 'good.' All of them will wear and scratch, some much easier than others. Mostly the idea is to "protect the blade" from rust, stain, etc.

I don't stay up to the minute on it but I'm under the impression that right now some of the DLC coatings are among the best available. I think Teflon and similar coatings are now considered to be mid-level. I usually avoid coated blades.

There is no coating on the gerber parframe. The blade is a bead blasted finish to the metal.
