Blade coatings

My favorite is ZT's Blackwashed DLC...Why? It looks great and hides wear while looking only better as it does wear. Plus, it is just so damn cool.

I am an amateur knife maker and I just want to get a feel for what people like.

No coating is prefered for me. But i dont minds kershaw's/zt's DLC coating. Its just really well done and as said before looks even better with time and use

I don't like blade coatings. I prefer a nice shiny blade. Absolutely hate and won't buy black coated blades. I don't understand why companies put titanium coatings on stainless steel. Just cheaper than polishing the blade I guess.

Whatever works. DLC is terrific; my BassPro 110 has some sort of similar coating (aluminum-nitride?), but grayish; my Grippie in D2 has a kind of black epoxy coating, not sure it's really necessary; my Blackjack Campanion has a gray epoxy of some sort that is extremely durable.

I don't like coated blades at all.

But my favorite blade "finishes" would be stonewashed and satin.

I prefer a true DLC over a lightly ceramic tumbled fine belt satin.

However, moly coat on some vintage (1990s-early 2000s) folders can be quite interesting.

I prefer black dlc if the blade is going to be coated. To me its the most attractive and i feel it ages the best. These days many companies have switched to ceramic spray on coatings like cerakote and the like. I hate that stuff. Ive seen knives with drips and runs, uneven finish quality and many look cheap and glossy. Those coatings also have a greater risk of dimensional variance due to the thickness depending on the skill of the person applying it. The finish of these coatings seem to be durable but they look very tacky and unprofessional for a tool. Just take a dlc coated ultratech from 2001 and up and compare it to a new ultratech. The old one will have its coating sparkle in the sun like a blanket of black diamonds. The new one will look glossy, uneven and quite frankly paint like. Imho a black blade should be dlc or not at all.
