I was wondering if it is possible to coat a blade on your own. for example, i have a fixed blade i really like, but it would be nice if it was coated for corrosion resistance.can this be done, and if so, how hard is it?

You could put a patina on it with vinegar or mustard and that would be a easy way and should add some corrosion resistance if its carbon steel or you could try spraying it with cerakote or something, but that's a little more difficult.

DuraCoat comes to mind. I've used it on a few projects before and its cool stuff. The site below has affordable kits you can do at home. they even have clear and matt finishes if you want to keep the look of the steel

Cold bluing offers NO rust protection. Many times it actually promotes rust.
