I have aquired a couple etched blades recently two are cheapo damascus from ebay and the other is a very nice laminated one from Larry Withrow. I have used all of them lightly and sharpened them and I notice that the color in the steel is very fragile and wears badly. I dont mind wear but having part of the blade black and then shiny spots where a careless lick of the stone barked it bothers me. Do you guys have a way to repair these spots and get the thing back to the way it was? I tried perma blue and it worked well after a light rubdown with mothers mag polish but it still dosnt give the same look. Im considering just polishing the oxidation off the blades completely but dont want to loose the pattern:confused: This is especially true of the Withrow since it has two different shades with a shiny line between them. I like that look:cool: Im sure once it got bad enough I could take it back over to him and get it fixed but I would really like to repair it since it is so easy to mess up.
