As of now I either mirror polish my knives, or I blue them and paint over it with your basic camo paint you can get anywhere. I want something a little more permanent. Any recommendations?

DLC, Cerakote/GunKote, acid wash, stonewash, satin finish, bead blast, hand satin/rubbed finishes come to mind.

I love my fine green 3M scotchbrite. 60 grit, 180 gator, and the fine scotchbrite is my favorite satin user finish.

Scotchbrite belts are my friend. Green and blue.

Remember, they won't make up for bad grinding and sanding. Get the bevels and surfaces right first, then give the blade a Scotchbrite finish.

Anyone have a comparison between a Scotch-brite belt (I have the blue) and a Scotch-brite finishing wheel? I would think the edge fibers of a finishing wheel would produce a different type of finish than the laid down fibers of a belt.

I have both. the belts leave a much nicer and more even pattern. The wheels are good for cleaning up weld joints and stuff, but not so great for putting a satin finish on a blade.

And what about CVD, chemical vapor deposition finishes like DLC, TiN, etc? Any fans?
