Blade Finishing Suggestions - nOOb question

The vast majority of blades I've been grinding have been finished with a high polish. Up to 2000gr. I love the way they look but I would like to mix it up a but and try some new ones. I've done a few cold blue with varied results and have had a few hydro-dipped, but I was considering a bead blasted, frosted look. What do most people use for a blasting compound, from and aside from keeping it even, are there any obvious pitfalls or perils I should know about?

Much thanks!

The only medium I've used is glass beads. They give a nice even, no glare finish. You'll still have to finish sand up to 600 or your grind lines will still show through the bead blasted finish. The only negative that I know of is noticeably reduced corrosion resistance in non stainless steels. Stainless doesn't seem to lose any of it's rust resistance in my experience.

Don't use the same blast media that has been used on a carbon steel on a stainless. You might develop surface rust on stainless steels.

Does anyone use a cold blue with good results? I've tried a few but they are not really what I should expect. I'm anxious to try the new DuraBlue from the DuraCoat people.
