Leatherman Wave -- this will be used more then a Ka-Bar ever would.

USMC Kabar, no doubt (if he does not already have one). I got one when I was in TBS from a friend, used it hard in the field while active duty, and display it proudly today in my home 25 years later.

My room mate at TBS named his dog Kabar...

I would say get him a nice Leatherman they are more useful most of the time. Then a folder he will get issued a Ka-Bar. (Unless that has changed)

Heck if we're showing KaBars! As an Armorer I issued this to myself as a young Marine Armorer and kept it now for 30 years. The john Wayne on my keychain is from bootcamp 30 years a go as well.

I carried Benchmade folders my whole time on active duty. Don't think you can go wrong with one.
