There has been some very serious interest from a few well known makers to turn the Bladeforums Bowie into the base for a Collaboration Knife for charity. A couple of collectors are also willing to help organise the process.

The Bladeforums Bowie Design Threads

The basic idea is quite ambitious:

- Collaboration of 4 makers
- Build is photographed at each stage
- Article written (if published and proceeds are received, they will be added to the donation)
- Knife, with sheath and some documentation is Auctioned for Charity (Breast Cancer Research??)
- ALL proceeds from the sale go to charity.

Time will be donated for free, but we (the collectors) will need to provide a fund for materials, handling, shipping, admin, photography etc.

I do not want to name any names yet either of makers or collectors, as there is a lot to be sorted out.

One of the first things to understand is whether there is support for such a project. By support I mean willingness to contibute a few $ upfront to get the project fund together.

A collector should consider this a contribution to fund, it is not to be refunded and will not be deducted from the proceeds of the knife. If there are any funds left over they will be added to the donation.

This is a big ask, and will require a lot of faith from all you guys, so before setting the process in motion and asking for any actual contributions, we just want to gauge how many will participate.

If the response is good we will make some announcements on the makers, timing and process, as well as asking for the contribution.

So heres what we need today.

If you can vote in a poll - and you want to participate please, vote in the poll.

If your membership won't let you vote please add a post to this thread.

I would also ask that if you don't mind please email me with a indication of the amount of contribution you had in mind. This will allow us to look at the likely funds available. When it looks feasible we'll let you all know an amount per person based on the level of interest. The request for you to mail me with a figure is just so I can get an order of magnitude of what people are willing to do and how many we'll need!

Cheers,

Stephen

As I promised when this began, I'm in.

Thank you, Stephen, for taking the leadership role in all this...and 'making it happen.'

Be proud.

I'm in. Once we deiced of the final form, materials, etc, I will go through my stash and see if i have any raw materials that i can throw in too. Maybe a bar of W2? Good idea on the one potential charirty. I love breasts and any effort to save them is worthy.......hee, hee.....just kidding......me being juvenile:eek: :p :D Have we decided on the handle material?

The Voting is taking towards Stag, but it is all dependent on sourcing I would guess.

It would be great if we could all agree on Breast Cancer Research, it is a charity welcomed by all it has been discussed with.

Being practical it may better to just state now that this is the prospective beneficiary it it goes ahead - I hope no one will mind.

Thanks for the enthusiasm Joe and others, I think we can all be proud if we pull this off.

Cheers,

Stephen

If we could get Garrison and you together over cocktails, I believe we could sell tickets to hear that discussion. Now that would bring in quite a bit for the charity. ;) :D :) You guys are quite the characters

I'm willing to contribute to a worthy cause. Breast cancer research is close to my heart as it has affected several close friends and loved ones.
PM sent.

As long as Joe isn't doing the forging. :p :D

Thank you!

I would be more then happy to contribute with what I can. There are many excellent organizations out there that would benefit greatly by some sort of donation or assistance. This is an excellent idea. My preference would be something for the prevention or cure towards Cancer.
As I am thankful for each day of having with the love of my life by my side, my wife. Which still remains an everyday battle that we face!

I'm in!

St. Judes has helped one friend of mine with Cancer.

The Ronald Mac Donald House (I know it sounds funny) Helped another friend of mine.

I am always partial to the "Wounded Warrior Fund" ..I am biased.....these folks helped me after I was injured in Iraq and I try to support soldiers as much as possible, but cancer is also a risk WE ALL face.....so you have my support and money.

since you actually came up with something attractive, surprisingly enough!:D

Seriously, I do like breasts, and will do whatever I can to keep them bouncing, and intact.;)

Go to the "stealth communication mode" when you want more action, and we can divy up responsibilities.

Garsson, Mr. Jones!! Why do people always screw up my last name?!?!?

Best Regards,

Your generousity and early support will be key in making this happen. We are a gnats whisker away from pulling the trigger on this, and I assure you it will be worth doing. Watch out for an announcement either way pretty soon.

If this does happen you guys will have been integral in making it so.

Cheers,

Stephen
