Will you participate and contribute to the fund if it goes ahead?

  • Yes - I will participate, and will contribute to the fund.

I haven't read any of these threads until now, otherwise I would've posted earlier. Either way, add my name to the list.

One thing we could contribute is cash and also materials so that either one of the makers or someone like Kenny Rowe or Sandy Morissey to make a MONSTER sheath with some exotic inlay and maybe some kind of carved "logo" of the charity that is choosen.

I would use extreme caution on who to pick for work on the knife. The former collaborative attempt, either lost or stolen:

Keith is right, It made it back to the states OK and eventually back to the originator Mike Cooper (aka L6)

Ive taken part in 2 of these and they took about 5 years to complete. Be sure to get dedicated participants. The fire goes out if they take that long. Know what Im saying?

As long as a maker can be found that is willing to take this on, I think this should be a one maker project, not than a collaboration.

I would agree with Keith on this. More likely that this will get done in a timely fashion. Collaboration = complexity. I operate based on the KISS principle.

One or two makers and the sheath maker. The KISS method is the best.

This project has great potential if done in a timely fashion and kept up on this forum with good progress photos. The proceeds are going to help keep breasts heathy also although we may not get to see those photos. :)

I am sure that someone from the Cove could come up with a nice little joke "before the BF acution" and "after te BF auction" picture set to demonstrate what find work we did and how we perhaps "perked up" someones life........lol

Well everybody we are delighted to say that with the funds pledged in this thread, plus an estimate of the pledges from those who did not indicate an amount, this project now has a green light.

A huge thank you goes to all of you that have said you will support as this has been a major factor in deciding to take this forward. Your support is making this happen!

There will be an announcement thread later today with as many details as we currently have.

At the heart of this project is the design we all collaborated on. The final choice was the STAG CARVER handle. As indicated earlier the design would need some minor modifications to improve its handling and to suit the makers styles. Here is the final version. I hope we all understand that when we hand over our brain child to the makers , she'll eventually come back looking a little different, but still with the same values and spirit she left us with.:D

Please note this is a simple line drawing and the final handle shape will depend on the stag sourced.

Regarding the details of the makers, charity and process, then again we have had to be practical. So many good ideas have been posted, emailed and pm'd that to go through a full consultative process with all of us would add huge complexity and time. We hope you will support some of the decisions made in the spirit of making this more achievable.

......... as to the makers, well they are .............. you'll have to see the announcement thread!:p I think you'll be pleased!

Cheers,

Stephen

Well, it's a little different, but I don't see it as losing a design, but gaining a maker...:D Looking forward to seeing the final result!

This is awesome! I am overwhelmed to take part, even a small part of all this. Thanks for the opportunity and for keeping us all informed.

Now that we know all of the details and the serious work is under way, it is time to have some fun. Bring on the JOKES!!!!! To start it off , I propose, in honor of the chosen charity AND in recognition of our typically innapropriate knife guyz humor, that we refer to this knife amongst ourselves as "The Booby Prize" :D

And I nominate myself as the "poster child" for the Booby Prize! Sorry, no pics available at this time. But I have boobies and they are a prize! hehehe.

Can't post boobie pics in this forum anyways. (Whew!)

The first totally appropriate 'double post' I've ever seen...
