I am relativley new to posting on Blade Forums (I have been a "lurker" for quite some time) and I was wondering if Blade Forum members wear any type if Blade Forum I.D. when attending knife shows. I attend about three shows per year and I think it would be great if some kind of I.D. was available to Forum members. This topic might have been covered in a previous forum, if it was I couldn't find it.
Thanks

I had printed up a batch of BladeForums labels for the recent NY Custom Knife Show (see http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum32/HTML/000631.html for details) but nothing formal is in place. The label was nothing more than the small logo from the upper left side of this page with the Web address beneath it.

They worked OK but didn't stick too well to all materials. I agree that an offical ID badge of some kind would be a good idea.

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket, Babe, but at least I'm enjoyin' the ride.

I would suggest that the store carry a small pin similar to the National Knife Collectors Association or Knifemaker's Guild pins. These are relatively inexpensive, less than $15 in almost all cases, and would not represent the financial risk to the forum that other "Bladeforums" exclusive items have proven to be when it's come time to put up or shut up. What about it Mike?

Take care,

Man we don't need no stinkin' badges! We got our BF Natives in the concealex neck sheaths to hang around our necks!

Agreed, no badges (maybe just a little pin?)!

Since I'm small enough to fit into an XL tshirt, I usually wear one of my BladeForums shirts to shows.

An id pin is not a bad idea. Low enough cost and if preordered, could provide some income for BladeForums.

We can do that, or we can come out with clip on ID cards, laminated badges, etc. Whatever you guys want to do.

It's just a matter of how you want to handle it.

That sounds like a winner! How about those that have been here since the beginning? Maybe a rocker that reads "Charter Member?" Also I would pay for a pin/name badge. Help the Forum out!

I think this is a great idea. I don't get to many of the shows, but I would love to have some type of pin or something showing my involvement/membership in this awesome forum.

Pins sound great, the simpler/smaller the better. I'd watch out with badges of office or rank though; next thing it will be hats, cloaks and funny handshakes

Iain, SHHHH! You know we're not supposed to say anything about the secret handshake! You'll get us in trouble!

A pin is a nice idea, but if you make it something too small, we'll have to get within a foot or two of each other to make sure of what we're really seeing, and then, well, "There can be only one"... Uh oh, off track again...

No, really, I think there are two different items here:
  • Something somewhat noticeable, say at least credit card sized, that can be clipped on a shirt pocket or lapel or belt loop, or just pinned to a shirt, so you can be noticed easily by online friends at shows, and,
  • Something rather more discreet, that you can wear places other than shows, just to quietly show the world that you're a BF member, perhaps with a hope of running into another BF member you haven't met in real life before.
For this latter type of item, I'd love to see a "BF blue" anodized Spyderco Mini-Police necklace knife, but I'm not gonna hold my breath on that one...

I wore my BF T-shirt to Blade Show West, and got a number of comments, most of the form "oh no, not another one of them", but also mostly with tongue firmly in cheek. (I didn't get there 'til Sunday afternoon -- what kinda antics were you guys doing there earlier in the show, anyway?)

I like the pin idea... a hat would be nice & usefull too.

I attended a NKCA show last weekend here in Cincinnati and I made my own using Word97 before I went. I got quite a few comments about mine and made many aware of this site.

Well, we oughta have something, I agree. I wore my BF Native in it's neck sheath at Blade Show West and only Rob Simonich seemed to recognize it. Others seemed puzzled!
Anyway, I like both ideas, leaning more towards the pin.
