What length blade do you prefer for EDC?

I don't do anything that requires a big blade, and I like my knives light and pocket friendly. So, 2" to 2-3/4" for me.

I'd say 3-3.5" for me.

I'm sure it's relative to what you more commonly use your EDC for, but I like to feel like my blade can handle any task needed.

I need to get some smaller knives (sub 3 - 3in) and try them out this year. Ordered a Buck Vantage Pro and it's still in the mail. Looking forward to Kershaw's new Cryo and maybe I might get the ER BF1CD and Emerson Micro Commander if funds permit.

Usually 3.5"-4". I went to that length years ago and haven't been comfortable changing back to anything much less. On occasion, I'll carry something closer to 3", but it's rare. I definitely like the additional reach in regular tasks.

I tend to stick with 3" folder blades and slightly shorter for FB EDCs. 2 3/4" to 3" does everythng I need and they carry well.

3.5 inches seems to be my sweet spot, but I go up to four inches sometimes.

2.5 to 3". I don't really need a large blade for my uses. The big issue however is handle size. I tend to go with 3" blades because the handles tend to fit my hand better. The exception being "little big knives" like the Dragonfly.

2.5" to 3.5" for me. It varies a lot with the type of knife. A traditional slipjoint is in the 2-2.5" for me, a one hand folder, I prefer 2.8-3.2", but can go up to 3.5" if I am expecting a little bit more work that day. My most common EDC knives are: BM 558 Mini-Ritter, 2.9" blade, BM 13960 Osborne, 3.1" blade. Case Peanut, 2.2" blade, Case Sway Back Jack, 2.5" blade, Spyderco UKPK 3" blade.

For most of my pocket knife use, 2 to 2 1/2 inches is enough. I haven't hunted in years, and for fish I just don't need much knife. Cutting a piece of rope or breaking down a cardboard box, 2 inches is plenty.

Carl.

i like 3-4inches, but unfortunately they are illegal here :(
so i have to be very discreet in using my edc in public

3.5-4" is perfect for me, a lot of smaller folders have handles without enough real-estate for a nice 4 finger grip (pinky is most important part of grip) and I choke up on the larger folders when I feel like it. If you do a lot of cutting a wider, longer grip is best - opposite of pocket comfort or choosing one best for tight pockets.

We have a 3.5 inch limit in the State of WV. I generally carry something around that size, though to be honest it's usually overkill in my office/university setting. Three inches or thereabouts is a pretty good size for all around use. Less than 2.5 is getting a little small in my opinion.

I try and keep it under 3". Anything over 3" seems to scare the S**t out of people. Not sure if my explaination of assisted opening/switchblade is getting through, people keep jumping when I open my Blur or Barrage. Also I not 100% sure of what the laws are in neihboring states. My Spyderco Native 5 is my EDC right now.

Like many others, around 3" is about right and includes a lot of great folders like the Delica, Mini Grip and Caly (a few of my favorites).
