Blade Length Survey

The older I get, the shorter my knives get. When I was younger, I would not be caught in the woods without a 8-9 inch blade, now, I like the 5 inch models. I still have some big knives, but they don't get carried near as much anymore...

My thoughts exactly. 4 to 5 inches is perfect.;)
She Who Must be Obeyed disagrees though.:o

She likes 'em short.

For my needs a 4 1/2" or 5" blade is plenty. For an everyday "only one" knife I think a 4 to 5 inch blade is all you need. Once you go over 5" you start to get into that range where it is too long for tip control and too short to chop.

So I'd say 4 1/2".

Me too - 4 1/2".
And, while I know not everyone will agree with this, but - 1/8" thick, max.
But that's just me.

I guess I'm going to sound like a broken record along with everyone else.

My 3 most used knives are :
- Jarvenpaa Puukko - 4"
- BRKT Aurora - 4.5"
- HI R-10 - 5"

So, it seems a 4.5" blade is the sweet spot in the middle. But I also like a 4.5" handle because I have big hands and that's about how wide my palm is.

Sure she does. :p

The very same!!!

I really that one would catch on, it`s such a handy little knife, but your`s is the only one in existance.

It looks like I`m pretty much on the mark as to preferences, 90% of my Kepharts are at 4" - 4 1/2" blades.

Bob Dozier makes some of the best "working" knives. They are in the 3 1/2" blade range. I use a "general" and is plenty big enough.

I know what you mean, I am suprised myself. Maybe I need to plaster more pics of it around W&SS ;) It is the perfect city knife, doesn't attract attention. But really, if I have the only one that ever gets made....I have to say that is A OK with me!:D:thumbup:

My EDC. Has 3.5" blade with 8" overall.

bit shortened by sharpening.

I like a blade about 6 inches long with plenty of handle for my big paws. Six inches never seems to be to long but often 4 inches is just a bit short. I am getting to really like six inch thin blades. THIN CUTS SOOOO NICE.

I find myself becoming less and less picky. Anything between 3 3/4 and 6 inches is good with me - much larger and it is a pain to carry, much smaller and batoning requires more patience. I don\'t mind knives that are thick at the spine as long as they are thin enough at the edge (not many out there like this but they do exist). Thinner is usually better until the blade becomes too fragile or flexible.

3.5 to 4.5 is what I like. Oh and somebody said 1/8" yeah.

And no secondary bevel. Full convex or scandi.
