Blade less than 2.0"....options?

2" is the limit by law for all schools, colleges and universities as well as their property and functions in the state of GA.

Possession of a knife with a blade over 2" long at any of those locations is a FELONY. My usual EDC Glock 19, ZT 0200 and waved Emerson '8 are going to have to stay away when I go back to school next month. :(

I wonder how many tens of thousands of people have unknowingly committed felonies due to this. Or guns. In GA you can have a handgun in your car without a license or permit, but if you so much as turn around in a college parking lot or in the parking lot of a college event (like a ball game) it is a felony. And, oh, any knife with a blade over 2" is the same.

How's that for screwed up?

That's crazy. I live and go to school in liberal hippie land aka Lawrence, Kansas (KU) and we have a 4" blade limit on campus. It even specifically states fixed blades are ok as long as they are less than 4". I would have thought somewhere down south, especially Georgia wouldn't have a ridiculous law like that.

- The Dragonfly blade is just over your 2" max limit at 2 5/16" (58mm) but IMO is one of the best small folders around. I've got the original FRN and new G10 versions.
- Under 2" I'd go with the Ladybug. I've got the original partially serrated and the new Ladybug3 Salt with the redesigned handle and blade.
- I'm not sure why Spyderco discontinued the Jester. It shared the handle of the Ladybug but had a different shaped blade spine.
- I've never tried the BladeTech Mouse but I've heard good things about it.
- I tried the SOG Flash II but it had too much lateral blade play for my liking.

Haven't had a chance to try one yet, but the Spyderco Chicago would be another candidate.

I personally have two knives on me all the time that are below 2" as EDC, a kiridashi from Ecos knives with my keys and a HAK as my necker.

does it have to be a folder? How about a brusletto balder, great little knife only about 20$ as well from memory.

Kershaw Centofante/Onion is exceptional. Any of Chad's smaller designs are impossible to beat for the money. Although out of production, the Spyderco Copilot is a great knife, too.

A.G. Russell offers his titanium penknife and lockback with a nice variety of scale materials and price points. I had a titanium lockback with VG-10 blade and abalone scales which was beautiful. It cost me $65, but was the most expensive of any of them. There should be plenty of options below the $50 mark.

I also have a serrated H1 Ladybug and it is wonderful. I say if you want something fancier, go with the A.G. blade but if not, the Ladybug should serve you very well.

you have it easy. in CA the university knife law is 2.5" and non locking. which is worse than the UK. btw
i would second the spyderco spin.

I said the Benchmite would be sweet, but just stumbled upon the AG Russell titanium pen knife with VG10 blade...1 7/8" blade...29.99! looks mint!

I played around with a spin during a passaround, and I loved it.

another option is the new spyderco chicago.

Yea, the Benchmite is surprisingly useful for the size.
(Alternatively you could carry one of the smaller/smallest leathermans on your keychain though of course their knives at that size are pretty dinky.)

What about a Vic classic or the like? Easy to carry on a keychain, and has a variety of tools. Sharp little blades.

Thanks for the input.

Ladybug Salt and subcom/etc are top of the list, for now. There are more quality choices than I expected, though.

Another vote for the Spyderco Ladybug Salt.

Its a great little knife, low maintenance, and will keep a good edge once you sharpen it a few times (due to the work hardening properties of H1).

I have the Boker Subclaw, very useful blade shape and ergonomic handle, but the AUS-8 is a little too soft, the tip had to be reshaped within days for me. This is my only non-Spyderco folding knife, so depends on what you expect, YMMV.

I dont think there is a better fitting knife in your hand with a sub 2" blade than a spyderco lava
